BOARD CERTIFIED CRIMINAL DEFENSE TRIAL LAWYER
Brian Roberts | Trial Lawyer
Brian Roberts was born in 1968 in Las Vegas, Nevada to an American father and a Serbian-Croatian mother. When he was a year old, Brian moved with his family to Zemun, a suburb of Belgrade, Yugoslavia. He returned to Las Vegas when he was five
years old to start school.
Brian excelled in school, graduated from the University of Nevada Las Vegas with a degree in Communications and a minor in Political Science, and the University of Phoenix with a Master of Business Administration.
Brian Roberts moved to Houston in 2001 to attend law school at South Texas College of Law, completing his degree in two-and-a-half years. He participated in the trial advocacy moot court and mock trial programs, competing against other law schools in Texas and in Los Angeles.
In December 2002, Brian was offered a pre-commit position with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, which, at the time, was considered a great distinction because it was an offer to join the Office prior to passing the bar exam and was reserved for the
top candidates. Brian tried his first case two months before receiving his bar card.
Brian spent five years as a prosecutor and tried many misdemeanor and felony cases, including drug cases, aggravated assaults, aggravated robberies, and murders. He spent the last two years in the Special Crimes Major Fraud Division where he handled
numerous complex cases, initiating and directing investigations, and ultimately taking those cases to trial.
After five successful years as a prosecutor, Brian opened his law practice dedicated to defending individuals charged with state and federal crimes.

Brian M. Roberts’s work at the ICTY (International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia) was an opportunity to participate in a historic world event. Brian assisted Radoslav Brdjanin’s defense attorney, former Harris County District Court Judge John Ackerman, in preparing for trial, which included reviewing war diaries kept by various military commanders, translating wire taps of communications between Slobodan Milosevic and his generals, witness statements, photos and numerous other discovery. The pinnacle of his time at the ICTY, was the week he sat with Mr. Ackerman in trial in the Tribunal chamber simultaneously listening to live witness testimony, the English translation of the witness’s testimony and reviewing the trial transcript as it was typed live and transmitted to our computer monitors. Brian’s job was to ensure the translations were correct and alert Mr. Ackerman to any misstatements of the witness’s testimony for him to make objections. Brian also met with the client, Radoslav Brdjanin, and translated during attorney conferences.
When he was not working on the Brdjanin case, Brian attended classes in international law and international criminal law, amongst others, at the University of Leiden and completed his legal studies.
